• Freedom isn’t as Free as we Think

Freedom is the American byword but how many really appreciate what it really means? However, the right wingers seem to have co-opted then word, feeling they have a monopoly on a concept they really don’t understand. They want the freedom to tell other people what they can and cannot do, which smacks of hypocrisy all the way down the line. They want smaller government yet want to make laws that require increased government inspections of your private areas. The sheer invasiveness of many of these new Republican intrusions into our lives is appalling on so many levels. After complaining for many years about our nanny state, they want to become Big Brother, Bad Daddy and Mean Mommy all at once. They’ve taken the free out of freedom and they are left with only dom or rather dumb! The bizarre thing is that many of them don’t always support the policies they push but take money that requires them to do so, thus leaving our nation stripped bare of principles for the sake of the almighty dollar. Taking rights away from others doesn’t increase one’s safety, security or comfort and only the holier-than-thou can take comfort in denying equal rights for all. Even the formerly anti-gay NAACP has changed its stance on same sex marriage, recently switching to support, following the president’s lead after a long period of evolution on the topic. As should be expected from a constitutional scholar or professor, if you will, it was about equal rights under the law, when saying gay people should be free to marry whomever they choose. No one wants to marry their dog or a donkey or turtle, although Mrs. McConnell didn’t know what she was in for when she married the senator from Kentucky. Bestiality isn’t a legal, sanitary or sane relationship for any human in 21st century America, thus we are referring to human interaction only, as animals can’t sign legal documents, anyway. Uranus is the planet of freedom and will continue to have a profound effect on the collective global economy during the three-year square to Pluto but this fall it also squares the US Jupiter, affecting international treaties, trade and truth, justice and the American way. In the Scorpio rising US chart I prefer, Jupiter has rulership over our money, while Uranus rules our 4th, protecting us through tariffs and subsidies and as long as we live, we pay taxes in one manner or several. One needs to understand that freedom from governmental intrusion is just as important as having a government that does the things the private sector can’t or won’t because there is no immediate profit in it. American taxes paid for a highway system in the 1950’s that is in serious need of repairs because so many lawmakers have cut taxes in recent years, being on the take and skimming off the top. Karma has ways of coming back to haunt you, either personally or collectively and such is the case this year, particularly on the Winter Solstice at the end of the Mayan calendar. On that day there is a Boomerang Yod affecting the US horoscope very directly, so we’ll see significant changes that must be made to keep our republic from becoming a complete plutocracy. Americans need to understand that freedom is what we need, represented by our Moon in Aquarius but there are entitled elites that want to prevent that from happening, keeping us enthralled to corporate contributors to further their domination of business, down the path of monopolies. It used to be they were almost always on the far right of the political spectrum but now there are many Blue Dog Democrats that play the game the lobbyists lay out for them, lured into the trap of money and all it buys for underpaid congressman. Career politicians aren’t the answer because we need fresh voices of the people to inject some reality into the concourse of communal improvement. There is a point of convergence wherein all parties can benefit from a cooperative effort but it takes ethical and moral character not to descend into negative campaigning and you often have to sellout somewhere along the line. FDR articulated the Four Freedoms in the 1941 State of the Union address, specifying that in order to live a secure life, we needed to have freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear. He said that a necessitous man is not a free man and while he was sincere in his beliefs, getting to that ideal is a long road filled with evil and nasty corruption that seeks its own solutions to economic and population problems, which always seem to be connected. The more people there are in the world, the harder it is to have fair and equitable distribution of the global resources as there is always someone to game the system or skim off the top. When people on the right tell you they love freedom, ask them if they’re fine with allowing others to be free as they want to be. Imposing your beliefs on others is the tyranny of the minority and we all know how well that’s worked out historically. Colonialism has always been thus as have most extremist governments with radical patriots to serve in the front ranks, preventing the overthrow of the established authoritarian administration. If you believe in the power of freedom, you won’t vote for Republicans who want to take it away from us. You have the power to change the future but you have to make wise decisions if the process is going to succeed. The ball is in your hands.
