Washington DC and the Northeastern states felt a magnitude 5.8 earthquake that did little damage although it did shock and surprise people in a part of the country that doesn’t usually experience them just as they were preparing for landfall of Hurricane Irene. We’ve known about the New Madrid fault zone in the St Louis area but no one had ever heard of a fault in the Virginia/DC area. This event may have been caused by the fracking going on in many of those states because extracting gas from the ground causes fractures in the bedrock. There were some quakes recorded on the East Coast but they were over a century ago as it’s a much older geological area than the west, where we have far greater seismic activity because it’s still growing.

The energies of the day were stressful, no doubt, as the applying Mars square Saturn caused quite an impact with the undercurrent of the Uranus-Pluto square still not exact. The Sun-Venus opposition to Neptune-Chiron might have something to do with the effects as did the Moon on the Gemini S Node, reflecting being thrown off our comfortable routine. Particularly striking is the placement of Mars on the vertex in the 8^th house at the moment of the shaker.

Maybe more of an impact on the world was the news that the Libyan rebels had taken Gaddafi’s compound, essentially taking over Tripoli. The people of Libya are grateful to our nation for helping them but also allowing them the satisfaction of doing the job on their own, for the most part. Muammar is experiencing squares to his Uranus as the Sun on the Leo-Virgo cusp opposed Neptune. More telling is the transit S Node over his Sun and progressed Moon in Libra in direct opposition to his natal Aries Moon, suggesting that we may actually have a chart for the dictator on the run. Killing his own people is one interpretation of his Venus square Pluto, with which he would also betray people for money but reveals his deeply rooted corruption and greed, values which many dictators share.
